Murali Gopy (Malayalam: മുരളി ഗോപി‍) (born on March 4, 1972) is an Indian screenwriter, actor and journalist.[2] He is the son of legendary Malayalam film actor Bharath Gopi and Jayalakshmy.

Murali has been praised for his realistic acting style. He made his debut as an actor and screen writer in the Lal Jose movie 'Rasikan' (2004). He has also sung the song ‘Chaanju nikkana’ in this movie. His second movie was Blessy’s Bhramaram in which he played the role of Dr.Alex Varghese, a self-centered, urbane and shrewd doctor, who is the mastermind of a plot that irrevocably changes the life the protagonist Sivan Kutty, played by Mohanlal. This role won him the 2009 Sathyan Memorial Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.[3] His performance as Bharathan, a rough but kind-hearted truck driver, in Kamal's Gaddama was also well appreciated. Being highly choosy with the roles, he is in no rush for stardom.[4] He has written the story, screenplay and dialogues for the upcoming movie Ee Adutha Kaalathu, directed by Arun Kumar Aravind, in which he also plays a lead role alongside Indrajith and Anoop Menon. This movie is set to be released in February 2012.[5]

Murali is also an acclaimed short story writer. He published his first short story 'Ayur Rekha' in Kala Kaumudi in 1991 at the age of 19. Later on he published numerous stories which were compiled together in his book 'Rasikan Sodanai', published by Rainbow Books.[6] [7] As a journalist, he has worked as sub-editor with The Hindu and The Indian Express.[8] He has also drawn few illustrations for The Hindu and also for the book Nataka Niyogam, written by his father, which won the state award for best book on drama in 2003. [9]

Murali Gopy currently shuffles his time between acting, writing and his journalistic career as the chief editor at MSN India Entertainment (India Syndicate).[1]
